Marilee Blackwell

A frequent writer and speaker on the business side of optometry, Ms Blackwell is the president and founder of Blackwell Consulting, Inc. She has a BBA and MBA in finance, and is a non-practicing CPA. Marilee is accredited through the Institute of Business Appraisers and, to our knowledge, is the only accredited appraiser who specializes in optometry.

Marilee's expertise is valuations of optometric practices and consulting in associate and partnership relations. Since 1998, she has performed hundreds of appraisals on optometric practices. In her role as an appraiser, Marilee provides an unbiased opinion of value.

Ms. Blackwell's appraisals comply with academic and professional appraisal standards. Those standards require a description of the purpose of the appraisal, history of the practice, standard of value applied, financial analysis, comparison of the practice against industry norms and valuation methodologies used.

Professional standards require that an appraisal be replicable and use generally accepted methodologies. In the end, a high quality appraisal gives all interested parties (buyer, seller, accountants and lawyers) assurance of the accuracy, reliability and objectivity of the results. This facilitates a smooth transition between the seller and the buyer.
